Do I need a building permit for a deck, verandah or garage?
Most decks, verandahs, pergolas, carports, garages and sheds in Victoria need a building permit before work starts. Send us the plans and we will tell you what applies to your project.
How long does a building permit take?
It depends on the project and on how complete the documentation is. Once we have seen your plans, we can give you a realistic picture for your project.
What is the difference between a planning permit and a building permit?
A planning permit comes from council and deals with how land is used and what can be built there. A building permit is issued by a registered building surveyor and checks that the design meets the building regulations and the National Construction Code. Many projects need a building permit but no planning permit.
What do you need from me for a fee proposal?
The property address, a short description of the work, and your plans if you have them. You can upload plans with the enquiry form. If the drawings are not finished yet, enquire anyway.
Do you do the inspections too?
Yes. We look after the permit through to the final inspection.
